About

China West Normal University is a key university in Sichuan Province and one of the first batch of "double first-class" universities in Sichuan Province. It is located in the historical and cultural city of Nanchong. It originated from the National Northeastern University, which moved to Santai County, Sichuan Province, during the Anti-Japanese War. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, the National Northeastern University moved back to Shenyang. In 1946, the teachers and students who stayed in Sichuan founded the Private North Sichuan Agricultural and Industrial College at the original site of Santai, and the school's cultural context began. In 1949, the school absorbed the Xishan Academy founded by Mr. Wu Feibai, a famous expert in Mohism, and changed its name to Private North Sichuan University. In 1950, the school merged with the Private North Sichuan Academy of Arts to form the Public North Sichuan University, which moved from Santai to Nanchong and was renamed North Sichuan University. In 1952, the school merged some departments and teachers of Sichuan East Education College (formerly China Rural Construction College), Sichuan University and West China University to form Sichuan Normal University. In 1953, some departments and teachers of the former Chongqing Normal College were incorporated into Sichuan Normal University. In 1956, the school was divided into two parts, one part moved to Chengdu; the part that remained in Nanchong was renamed Nanchong Normal College, and in 1958 it was renamed Nanchong Normal College. In 1989, the name "Sichuan Normal College" was restored. In 2003, it was approved by the Ministry of Education and renamed China West Normal University.
