About

Shandong University of Technology

Shandong University of Technology (SDUT), established in 1956, is located in Zibo City, Shandong Province, a place rich in cultural heritage. As a key provincial university, it plays a significant role in promoting science and technology education in the region. SDUT is also known for its adult higher education, managed by the College of Distance Continuing Education, which oversees various aspects of adult education, including enrollment, student status, and teaching quality.

From its foundation, SDUT has been committed to its motto of "integrity, learning, commitment, and perfection." This philosophy, along with the school’s spirit of “selfless dedication and striving for excellence,” has helped the university to train a large number of highly skilled professionals for society. Currently, the university offers 63 undergraduate programs and 43 master’s degree programs, spread across 21 schools. The total enrollment includes over 32,000 undergraduate and associate degree students, along with 1,200 postgraduates.

SDUT has been recognized at both provincial and national levels for its contributions to education. It is one of the first universities to be named a National Prioritized Training Base for Vocational Education Teachers by China’s Ministry of Education and is also recognized as a Model College of Enterprise Education in Shandong Province. Additionally, the university holds the title of Shandong Provincial Research Center for College Students’ Cultural Qualities Education. In 2007, SDUT passed the Ministry of Education’s Evaluation of Undergraduate Teaching with excellent results, and in 2009, it became eligible to offer doctorate programs.

The campus of SDUT covers an area of 42 hectares and includes a variety of academic and administrative buildings. The university has a total building area of 350,000 square meters, housing 4 colleges, 13 departments, and 3 teaching divisions that offer a total of 44 different majors. The university also offers 25 master’s programs and 4 doctoral programs. It currently hosts 7,900 undergraduate students and 600 graduate students. Moreover, SDUT boasts 2 post-doctoral research stations, and the university’s staff consists of 2,789 people, including 1,166 teaching staff members. Among these educators, there is 1 academician from the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 34 doctoral supervisors, 141 professors, and 409 associate professors.

SDUT is not just known for its academic excellence, but also for the beautiful campus environment. The university grounds are filled with green spaces, trees, and flowers that offer a peaceful setting for students and staff alike. The total floor space of the university buildings amounts to 1.29 million square meters, and it includes a sports area of 175,700 square meters, along with 208 multimedia lecture halls. These facilities help create a balance between academics and physical well-being. The university library contains a collection of 4.65 million books, including 2.1 million electronic books and over 26,000 types of journals in both Chinese and foreign languages. SDUT’s teaching and research instruments and equipment are valued at 294 million Yuan RMB.

In terms of educational philosophy, SDUT promotes the teaching spirit of “serving as role models and teaching with tireless zeal,” while fostering a learning spirit that emphasizes “excelling in both character and knowledge and learning tirelessly.” The university is dedicated to the development of high-level professionals by focusing on a talent cultivation system that integrates “knowledge, capability, and quality.” This three-in-one system ensures that students not only gain a strong academic foundation but also develop the skills and qualities needed to succeed in their future careers. To support this, SDUT has undertaken comprehensive teaching reforms, improved the building of disciplines and courses, and enhanced the quality of teaching teams.

SDUT’s commitment to teaching excellence is also reflected in its selection as one of the pilot universities for the National Teaching Reform of College Foreign Language. It is also a training base for the National College Student KAB Enterprise Education, which focuses on building students’ entrepreneurship skills. Through its research and innovation training programs for students, SDUT has helped its students enhance their practical and creative abilities. This has led to impressive results, with students winning nearly 600 awards in various national and international competitions. The university has also been recognized as an Advanced Unit for Postgraduate Education Management and Discipline Building in Shandong Province.
