Zhengzhou University (ZZU), situated in Zhengzhou City, Henan Province, China, is a prominent educational institution renowned for its extensive history and commitment to academic excellence. Established through a series of mergers among historical universities, ZZU has evolved into a comprehensive, research-oriented institution with a diverse student body and a broad range of disciplines.
ZZU spans approximately 939 acres, encompassing four distinct campuses: the Main Campus on Kexuedadao Road, the South Campus on Daxuebeilu Road, the North Campus on Wenhua Road, and the East Campus, also on Daxuebeilu Road. This expansive area provides a vibrant environment for academic pursuit and cultural exchange.
ZZU has become a beacon of education in China, welcoming over 50,000 full-time undergraduate students, more than 22,000 postgraduate students (master's and doctoral), and around 2,500 international students from over 116 countries and regions. ZZU is recognized as part of China's National “211 Project,” which aims to cultivate key universities for the 21st century. The roots of medical education at ZZU date back to 1928 with the establishment of the National No. 5 Sun Yat-sen University. Over the years, the institution underwent several transformations, being renamed Henan Medical College in 1952 and later merging with other universities to form modern-day ZZU in July 2000. This merger brought together a wealth of academic resources and expertise, solidifying ZZU’s position in the realm of higher education.
ZZU boasts a distinguished faculty that includes numerous scholars and experts across various disciplines. The institution is home to 4500 full-time teachers, including 24 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering. The University is committed to providing the best possible opportunities for international students coming to Zhengzhou for the first time. We have a wide and varied range of university-managed accommodation options that are safe, affordable, and convenient. There are several unique advantages of campus accommodations:

Over 1,200 places are available in residence halls for international students.
Ethernet connection in most rooms, providing 24-hour access to e-mail and internet facilities.

The room has a bathroom, a complete set of furniture, an air conditioner, a heater, and an electric water heater. Every floor of the hostel has a public kitchen and laundry room.
There are four buildings specially arranged for international students:
- Building 17 of Liuyuan (Building 17 Park of Willow), for students of short-term non-degree programs;
- Building 2 of Heyuan (Building 2 Park of Lotus), for female students of degree programs;
- Building 12 of Songyuan (Building 12 of Pine Tree), for male students of degree programs;
- International Student Hostel (East Campus), for medical students of postgraduate programs and medical students of undergraduate programs in the later stage.
International students can choose different types of campus accommodation, a single room or double-bed room at different price levels. Usually, it will have all the facilities that you may need.

Program Entrance Requirements
Chinese Bachelor Master Doctor
General Requirements for the Chinese Language Program
1. The candidate should be a Non-Chinese citizen healthy, non-criminal record, and of the age from 18 to 55.
2. No requirement for candidates’ Chinese language proficiency.
Requirements for Applicants of Bachelor Program
Students applying to ZZU are expected to satisfy the General Admission Requirement, English Language Requirement, and School-specific Requirement before the start of the year of admission:
1. The International Candidate should be a Non-Chinese citizen, with the aged between 18 and 30, healthy, and with a non-criminal record.
2. International Candidate should have an educational background equal to or above high school graduation (or equivalent).
3. English language requirements: for candidates from non-English spoken countries applying for EMI (English Mediated Instruction) programs, their minimum IELTS score should reach 6.0 or TOEFL score reach82 (IBT) (553 in the written version or 217 in the computer version), or equivalent.
4. Chinese Language requirements: Applicants who apply for CMI (Chinese Mediated Instruction) Science and /or Engineering programs should pass the level-4 HSK or above, and those who apply for Liberal Arts studies should pass the level-5 HSK or above. Applicants with lower-level HSK can first apply for Chinese Language Programs for a full year or half year in ZZU before their degree studies.
Requirements for Applicants of Master Program
1. The candidate should be a non-Chinese citizen, under 40 years old, a Bachelor's degree holder, healthy, and with a non-criminal record.
2. English language requirements: for candidates from non-English-speaking countries applying for EMI (English Mediated Instruction) programs, their minimum IELTS score should reach 6.5, or their TOEFL score should reach 90 (IBT), or equivalent.
3. Chinese Language requirements: Applicants who apply for CMI (Chinese Mediated Instruction) Science and /or Engineering programs should pass the level-5 HSK or above. Applicants with lower-level HSK can first apply for Chinese Language Programs for a full year or half year in ZZU before their major studies.
4. Specific requirements for individual academic Schools may vary by board and subjects taken. You are advised to check with your prospective school or supervisor.
Requirements for Applicants of Doctor Program
1. The candidate should be a non-Chinese citizen, under 45 years old, a Master's degree holder, in healthy condition, with a non-criminal record.
2. English language requirements: for candidates from non-English-speaking countries applying for EMI (English Mediated Instruction) programs, their minimum IELTS score should reach 6.5 or their TOEFL score reach 90(IBT) or equivalent.
3. Chinese Language requirements: Applicants who apply for CMI (Chinese Mediated Instruction) Science and /or Engineering programs should pass the level 5 HSK or above. Applicants with lower-level HSK can first apply for Chinese Language Programs for a full year or half year in ZZU before their major studies.
4. Specific requirements for individual academic schools may be imposed by the board and subjects taken. You are advised to check with your prospective school or supervisor.
For Research Degree Programs Since the postgraduate research degrees are individually supervised. We strongly recommend that prospective applicants make initial inquiries with the potential supervisor or school before submitting a formal application. A research proposal is required along with your formal application.
