Shandong University of Finance and Economics (SDUFE), located in Ji'nan, was established on July 4, 2011, by merging Shandong Economic University and Shandong University of Finance. Shandong Economic University, founded in 1952 as the Shandong Institute of Finance and Economics, was one of the earliest finance and economics schools in Shandong and China. Shandong University of Finance was started in 1986 through joint efforts by China's Ministry of Finance and the Shandong Provincial Government. In 2012, a key agreement was signed to support SDUFE, leading to the launch of Ph.D. programs in 2013.

SDUFE has four campuses and consists of 21 schools offering 62 undergraduate programs. With over 1,900 teachers, including 900 professors and associate professors, the university serves around 33,000 students, including 31,000 undergraduates and 2,100 postgraduates. SDUFE grants Ph.D. degrees in applied economics, business administration, and management science and engineering. It also offers master’s programs in 10 major areas and 11 professional degrees like MBA and MPA. SDUFE focuses mainly on economics and management but also covers fields such as law, science, engineering, art, and education.

The university publishes two important academic journals: Review of Economy and Management and Journal of Shandong University of Finance and Economics.

SDUFE actively partners with over 100 universities and institutions from countries like the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and Germany. Since 1993, it has welcomed international students from around the world. More than 80 foreign teachers are employed each year, and the university offers a range of international programs, including joint degrees and exchange opportunities. It has partnerships with universities such as Edinburgh Napier University and Dalhousie University. Over 500 students get the chance to study abroad every year through these programs, attending well-known universities like the University of Minnesota and the University of Economics, Prague.
