Xiamen University of Technology is a public undergraduate university run by the Fujian Provincial People's Government. It is located in Xiamen, a "high-quality, high-value, modern and international" garden city on the sea. Xiamen is a sub-provincial city and special economic zone in Fujian Province, an important central city, port and scenic tourist city on the southeast coast, and an important birthplace and pioneering practice of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The school implements a management system of "co-construction by the province and the city, with the city as the main body". It is a key university in Fujian Province, a provincial A-level first-class application-oriented university, and a provincial doctoral degree-granting unit cultivation project construction university.
The predecessor of the school, Lujiang Vocational University, was founded on October 15, 1981, at Fengchao Mountain on Xiamen Island and the Xiamen Special Economic Zone. In 2004, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to upgrade to a university and renamed Xiamen Institute of Technology. Since the start of undergraduate education, the school has kept in mind the mission of "educating people for the Party and cultivating talents for the country", fully implemented the fundamental task of cultivating morality and cultivating people, based in Xiamen, facing the main battlefield of economic construction, actively promoting the integration of industry and education, deepening the integration of science and education, and delivering more than 120,000 professional talents.
The school has complete infrastructure and excellent school conditions. The school covers an area of more than 1,500 acres, with a total value of teaching and scientific research equipment of about 780 million yuan. It has a collection of 2.124 million paper books and 2.04 million electronic books, and a modern multifunctional large gymnasium. The school has 19 secondary colleges (departments), 58 undergraduate majors, about 2,200 full-time master's students, and about 17,500 undergraduates. There are more than 1,200 full-time teachers, including more than 720 with senior professional and technical positions; there are nearly 150 high-level talents at the national and provincial and ministerial levels, 279 at the municipal level, 1 national teaching team, 6 provincial science and technology innovation teams, 15 provincial teaching teams, and 20 well-known foreign experts from the United States, Britain, Germany and other countries are appointed as part-time professors and visiting professors. There is currently one "double first-class" plateau discipline, 6 applied disciplines (including 2 cultivation disciplines), 3 provincial first-class applied university backbone disciplines, and 2 doctoral degree cultivation disciplines.
The school insists on putting undergraduate education at the core of talent cultivation. The school actively implements the "123" Strategic Plan of Xiamen, closely follows the construction of Xiamen's "4+4+6" modern industrial system and Fujian Province's "four major economies", and builds characteristic professional clusters for industries such as electronic information, mechanical equipment, materials and energy, ecological environment, smart construction, marine engineering, trade and logistics, and financial services to promote the development of new quality productivity.
