Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NJUPT) is a prestigious institution recognized under China’s Double First Class Project for creating world-class universities and disciplines. Originally established as the Wartime Postal Administration Cadre Training Class, NJUPT has a rich history in training talent for China’s communication sector. It became Nanjing Institute of Posts and Telecommunications in 1958 and gained its current name in 2005.

Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications (NJUPT), established in 1958, has a legacy extending back to 1942 with its origins as a training school for postal and telecommunications professionals. Initially operating as the Wartime Postal School and later known as East China Posts and Telecommunications School, it moved to Nanjing in 1949 and quickly became a central institution for technical education in the communications sector.

In 1958, with government approval, NJUPT was upgraded to an institute of higher learning and began offering undergraduate programs in radio, telegraph, and postal communications. Over the years, it underwent various reorganizations, including a brief renaming as Nanjing Telecommunications and Engineering Institute in 1972. In 2000, NJUPT came under the joint administration of the central and provincial governments, with the latter taking the lead role.

In April 2005, NJUPT was officially recognized as a university, cementing its status as a key institution in China’s telecommunications and information technology sectors.
